Not merely an exhibition presence, but a proposal submitted to an international competitive process with the aim of making a concrete contribution to the mobility of Benghazi’s future.
This is DITECFER’s new international challenge. From 6 to 8 September 2026, DITECFER is taking part in Libya in the GCUPI-B – Global Competitive Urban Planning Initiative Benghazi – the initiative launched by the Fund for Development and Reconstruction of Libya to identify masterplans and innovative solutions capable of contributing to Benghazi’s radical transformation – within the Competitive Track, the pathway dedicated to companies, experts and technical teams invited to submit innovative solutions for the city’s urban development. Proposals are assessed against criteria including technical quality, innovation, sustainability and concrete implementability.
DITECFER is bringing to Benghazi a project specifically developed for one of the strategic nodes of the new city: the connection between the new airport and the city centre, with a possible subsequent extension towards the Corniche, with the aim of combining public transport capacity, service continuity and the flexibility – and privacy – of individual mobility.
From project to prototype – also on display at the stand
At the heart of the proposal is RailEvo, an Italian autonomous rail mobility system developed by the Trentino-based start-up of the same name, whose full-scale 1:1 prototype is currently undergoing validation on the pilot line built in Trento.
For Benghazi, a configuration has been developed with a capacity of up to 6,000 passengers/hour per direction, using small autonomous 6-seat vehicles, available on demand, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The vehicles can travel directly to the requested destination without the intermediate stops typical of conventional mass transit, thanks to a dedicated infrastructure architecture and an innovative vertical switching system.
At Stand A-051, visitors will be able to see a 1:5 scale prototype of the RailEvo vehicle in the livery specifically developed for Benghazi, together with a scale representation of the related rail infrastructure.
“We are not simply bringing a new means of transport to Benghazi. We are proposing a different way of conceiving urban mobility, together with a concrete pathway to make it achievable,” says Veronica Elena Bocci, Coordinator of DITECFER and Team Leader in Libya. “Benghazi is pursuing an extremely ambitious vision for its future. Our proposal is that a system born in Italy could become a ‘world first’ right here: innovative in its technology, efficient in its performance and designed with the social and cultural characteristics of the local context in mind.”
An industrial value chain to make the project achievable
DITECFER is also building around the proposal a value chain of industrial capabilities that can be mobilised across the entire potential implementation lifecycle, starting with its own members: design and engineering, components, infrastructure, telecommunications and signalling, testing, certification and maintenance.
Also participating at the stand – alongside DITECFER and RailEvo – are Blend Plants, an Italian company specialising in mobile plants for the on-site production of cement-based materials, represented in Benghazi by General Manager Paolo Biglieri, who is also Vice President of Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, and Valente, with more than 100 years of experience in railway track systems and rail infrastructure.
RailEvo is an Italian start-up in the field of new rail mobility, created with the aim of rethinking the relationship between collective transport and individual mobility. Its development path has already led to the construction of a full-scale prototype and a dedicated experimental infrastructure in Trento, where system validation activities are continuing. https://www.railevo.com
Blend Plants is an Italian company specialising in the development of technological solutions for the production of cement-based materials directly at the point of use. Its applications are used in construction and infrastructure, including the railway sector, with particular attention to operational flexibility, site logistics and process efficiency. https://blendplants.com
Valente has been operating in the railway sector since 1919 and brings more than 100 years of experience in railway track systems and rail infrastructure. The company designs and manufactures switches and turnouts, rails, fastening systems and railway sidings for networks, ports and industrial applications. https://www.valente1919.com
