The ceremony of the “ERCI Innovation Awards 2019” – the European award that is awarded annually by the European railway clusters to the three best innovations in the railway field with TRL> 6 – was held on the 2nd of October, 2019 at EXPO Ferroviaria 2019 in Milano hosted and organised by DITECFER, acting this year as Secretariat of the Award.

In a very attended ceremony presented by the DITECFER Coordinator Veronica Elena Bocci, the companies selected by the European Jury – chaired by Prof. Alessandro Fantechi, President of the Engineering School of the University of Florence and composed of railway experts from Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland – were awarded and presented their innovations:

“Best SME” award to the Swedish D-Rail AB for the anti-derailing system that monitors real-time tracks, ballasts, overhead lines and signaling systems of the entire railway network from any train, with precision measurements much greater than the diagnostic trains;

“Best Large Company” award to the German Siemens Mobility GmbH for the first autonomous tram in the world, which combines intelligent sensors – that analyzes and interprets the environmental context and makes predictions-, signal detection and autonomous driving;

“Jury’s Prize Coup de Cœur” award to the Italian IVM Srl – already co-winner of the “DITECFER Railway Innovation Contest 2019” – with its “POWERVE” system, an innovative portable static scale for rolling stock able to determine in less than ten minutes how the weight-strength of a car is distributed over each wheel. >> Video

The other finalists of the award included – among others – “Bombardier Transportation GmbH” (Germany), “Bombardier Transportation Ltd.” (Great Britain), “SNCF Réseau” (France). Among them, present at EXPO Ferroviaria and awarded with the Finalist Certificate, the Italian “ETS Srl” for its system “ARCHITA – ETS Mobile Mapping System” and “Z Lab Srl” for its “Multi-functional and acoustic panel for Railway interiors “, and the French” CapGemini SA “for its” Virtual Train – Real Time System validation through VR and AR “system.
