The project “STARS – STrategic Alliances boosting Railway Smes” is a European pilot-project co-funded under the COSME programme of the European Union. It aims to develop innovative approaches to ease adoption of Advanced Technologies by SMEs of the Railway value chain. The creation of “strategic alliances” in fact will aim to gather joint needs among European SMEs and to develop answers through activities “on the job” run by 5 Technology Centres: Fondazione LINKS (Italy), Teknopark Istanbul (Turkiye), Fraunhofer HHI (Germany), CETIC (Belgium), Railenium (France).

The DITECFER Coordinator is the project Coordinator.

The project partners are – on the one side – the Railway Clusters DITECFER (Italy), MAFEX and In-Move by Railgrup (Spain), ARUS (Turkiye), RCSEE (Serbia), i-Trans (France), Logistics in Wallonia (Belgium), Rail.S and Berlin Partner (Germany), UoB-BCRRE Rail Innovation Cluster (United Kingdom) and the Digital Innovation Hub BNN (Austria), and – on the other side – 5 Technology Centres from 5 countries, and the Italian Start-up Apuana SB specialised in Blockchain.

The project aims to answer the need to make it easier to SMEs the adoption of advanced technologies. Such technologies include:

The project aims to give technical assistancebusiness support, as well as free access to the STARS Blockchain assistance and service, and much more.
All this while searching answers to typical obstacles impeding SMEs to exploit the potential of these technologies, because “too busy” or “missing the right culture” or “the right skills”.

The STARS project will also organise 5 “Hack & Match events” where sectoral challenges or challenges launched by the target SMEs will be launched in order to find possible answers through open innovation and collaboration with “tech-savvy SMEs”, as well as academia, researchers, etc.
